Jerome & Co. “Register” Walnut Wall Clock

This walnut-cased wall clock is named “Register”. The label on back says “Jerome & Co.” Jerome & Co. is a name used by the New Haven Clock Co., of New Haven Connecticut.

This clock was originally a “Double Dial” calendar clock with day of the week hand on the upper dial and month and date hands on lower dial. The main movement had a cam which lifted and dropped a wire once per day to advance the lower calendar hands. This was a B. B. Lewis calendar, and the inside of the case still has the original B. B. Lewis calendar instructions.

The case is 33 1/2 inches tall and 12 5/16 inch wide. The paper dial has a 7 inch time track, and the minute hand is 3 21/32 inches long.

Job 6107. I polished the pivots and installed 15 bushings. The verge was an incorrect replacement that wouldn’t allow the pendulum to swing all the way to the right, so I installed a new verge that fits properly. This movement has a 3/4 inch wide time mainspring, and a 1/2 inch wide strike mainspring. The time mainspring was a too-strong replacement, so I installed a new 3/4 by 0.0162 inch by 120 inch spring from Colonial Clock Co. The strike spring appears original, and is 0.0191 inch thick (if it were broken, I’d replace it with a thinner spring).

  1. We have this clock, with both dials; getting ready to sell it in and estate sale—any idea of an asking price? We don’t know if it works; it was an in attic for years, but is in great shape.
