1950 Seth Thomas Electric Steeple Clock

I recently repaired this Seth Thomas electric steeple clock that was made in 1950. The date code on the bottom of the case is 5010 (November 1950). The date code on the back of the movement is 5004 (April 1950). This clock is 15 1/4 inches tall and 9 1/8 inches wide. This clock is similar to another one I worked on, but the case top is more pointed, making it taller (see Seth Thomas Electric Steeple Clock with Hour and Half-Hour Striking, 1947). This clock strikes the hour and half-hour, and has a movement like the 1947 clock.

Repair job 6384. I polished the pivots, installed 16 bushings, and replaced the mainspring.

  1. I can repair your clock, but it will be expensive. The final repair price depends on how many worn out gears it has, and if the motor can be rebuilt or needs to be replaced. Details are on the following web page:

This is a clock with hour and half hour strike, and the typical repair price is in the $400 – $600 range, plus more if it needs to have the motor replaced.

    Thanks!

  2. Dear Bill,
I have the same clock, one of my favorites. But at present it is unusable. You can hear a loud noise coming from it a humming a loud clicking it’s just not a Clock you can leave running due to the noise. It’s still chimes after the chime it becomes noisy though. My husband tried to repair it, he put some graphite, some oil but the noise continues, and fairly loud. Does it need all parts replaced? Do you carry the parts? And is it very costly. We r in MO & haven’t found anyone to repair.
I will be glad to pay you & donate to sight for your time.
    Thank you
