My name is Bill Stoddard, and I like to repair clocks, document the history of Westclox and their clocks and watches, design web sites, and program in PHP. Professionally, I operate Bill's Clockworks, where I repair American antique clocks and 400 day anniversary clocks; and sell new wall, mantle, chime, cuckoo and other types of clocks, and a few antique clocks.

My other joys include being with my family, bicycle riding, singing in church choir, and vintage hi-fi and LP records.

Jahresuhrenfabrik (JUF) 400 Day Clock ca. 1912 with Disc Pendulum

Here’s another Jahresuhrenfabrik 400 day clock I repaired. This one was probably made about 1910 or 1912. The base is not original – it is a 1950s Kundo base. Repair job 6468. I polished the pivots, removed the broken-off screws and found new screws to mount the arch (the decorative part above the dial). I […]

Jahresuhrenfabrik 400 Day Clocks with Smaller Disc Pendulum

Three matching Jahresuhrenfabrik (JUF) 400 day clocks ca. 1910 were in my shop at the same time. They have a smaller disc pendulum and thinner suspension spring than many JUF 400 day clocks, and date from around 1910. Many JUF disc pendulum clocks use a 0.004 inch thick suspension spring, but these 3 clocks have […]

Schatz Midget 400 Day Clock Made in 1962

Schatz made 3 sizes of 400 day clock: Standard, Miniature and Midget. The Standard 400 day says “49” on the back inside a circle, the miniature says “53”, and the midget says “JUM/7”. Can anyone tell me what “JUM/7” means? The midget 400 day clock is slightly shorter than the miniature. I recently repaired a […]

Jahresuhrenfabrik 400 Day Clock ca. 1902

Here is a Jahresuhrenfabrik (JUF for short) 400 day clock made around 1902. It has a disc pendulum, small dial, and delicate spade hands. It has beautifully turned finials above the dial. I repaired this clock, and fixed some problems caused by previous repair work. The picture below shows the mainspring after removal from the […]

Seth Thomas Adamantine Mantel Clock, 1895, Beautiful Tan with Deep Red and Orange Swirls

Here’s a most beautiful Seth Thomas Adamantine mantel clock I repaired. My customer polished the case, and I repaired the movement, gently cleaned and lacquered the case ornaments, and cleaned the dial. The case background color is tan, with deep red lines and swirls, and some orange swirls too. The dial is embossed brass. The […]

Seth Thomas Adamantine Mantel Clock with 89C Movement

Here’s a beautiful Seth Thomas Adamantine mantel clock I repaired. The case is black, with green, yellow and orange marbleized top and trim. The movement is the popular and long-lasting No. 89C (which appears to be the same as the movement marked 89 which is seen often). It strikes the hour on a heavy coil […]

Ansonia “Burton” Oak Kitchen or Shelf Clock

I repaired this Ansonia “Burton” oak shelf clock. It is in nice, all-original condition including dial and door glass. About 35% of the label on the back of the case remains. This clock is 22 1/2 inches tall. The movement is 8-day time and strike. See more photos. Repair job 6396. This is the “4 […]

Kern Standard 400 Day Clock with Zodiac Dial

Here is an interesting Kern 400 day clock with the signs of the Zodiac around the center of the dial. I overhauled the movement, replaced the suspension spring, and polished and lacquered the base and pillars. I don’t receive as many Kern 400 day clocks for repair as Schatz and Kundo clocks. I’m guessing this […]
