Seth Thomas Simsbury Chime Clock Made in 1947

Here’s a pretty Seth Thomas chime clock I repaired. It plays Westminster chimes each quarter hour, and strikes the hour. The mahogany case is 14 inches wide, and 8 5/8 inches tall. The 1949 Seth Thomas catalog shows this clock. Seth Thomas made both windup (SIMSBURY-1W) and electric (SIMSBURY-1E) versions of this clock.

This clock has the No. 124 movement that Seth Thomas made for about 30 years in USA. The movement has the date code 4707 (July 1947) and the label has the date code 4710 (October 1947).

Repair job 7283. I polished the pivots and installed 30 bushings. A previous repairer had installed 3 bushings off-center, and I re-centered the holes and installed new bushings.

  1. I have just bought this clock from a friend. It sat in a box for many years. I have cleaned and oiled it the best I could. I’ve gotten the chimes striking in right sequence, but I can’t keep clock running. Have any suggestions? The code #4904. Thanks
