English Mantel Clock with Time and Automatic Alarm

Here’s an interesting and unusual clock I repaired. The dial and movement are labeled:
FATTORINI & SONS
BRADFORD
ENGLISH MANUFACTURE

And the dial also states: “PATENT AUTOMATIC ALARM”.

The case may be oak, and it is 17 1/2 inches tall and 12 7/16 inches wide, with a 2 3/16 inch minute hand. The dial is enamel, with a beveled glass in the bezel.

The movement is American-style, with lantern pinions, strip recoil escapement and open mainsprings. One mainspring runs the time, and the other is for the alarm (there is no striking).

The alarm may be set for a.m. or p.m. (whereas with most alarms you cannot control whether it is set for a.m. or p.m.). A wire on the left side of the case is pushed in or pulled out to turn the alarm on or off. The alarm hammer strikes a coil gong and brass bell at the same time!

See more pictures.

Repair job 6996. The mainsprings are 23/32″ wide. The time spring is 0.0178 inch thick, and the alarm spring is 0.0165 inch thick. I polished the pivots, installed 12 bushings and polished a wear groove from the entry pallet.
